What’s Trending in Interior Design for 2026
My work is rooted in creating spaces that feel timeless, personal, and right for the people who live in them. Still, paying attention to where design is headed matters. Trends influence what we see, what’s available, and what feels fresh at any given moment. When used selectively, those trends can be woven into your home in a way that feels current, but not timestamped.
Each year there are lots of new trends that show up in interior design. Let’s take a look at four of them that I think are making the most splash.
Warm Kitchens
While a white kitchen will always be classic in my opinion, we’ve been saturated with overly sterile versions in recent years. Almost as a backlash to this look, the warm kitchen has become increasingly popular, and we will be seeing more clients ask for this. Rather than one specific color or style dominating, this shift is about creating a kitchen that feels inherited instead of “just-out-of-the-box” new. These spaces are adapted for contemporary living, but with details that could have been installed 60 or 160 years ago just as easily as today. Details such as interesting countertop edge profiles, exposed hinges, heritage paint colors, and spice shelves, just to name a few.
Artisan Pieces and Antiques
In this week’s email newsletter, I mentioned an article about our transition to a technological world and how that may have influenced interior design choices. Continuing that thought, I can’t help but wonder if this next trend is a response to the rise of AI-generated images and content in our lives. Handmade and artisan decor, along with antiques and vintage pieces (or those that look antique), are rapidly re-entering the interior design scene. We are embracing the imperfections and shying away from factory-made. Clay pots that seem like they were thrown on a potter's wheel, embroidered fabric, and zellige or hand-painted tiles are just some of the places where the look of handcraftsmanship is being added into our decor.
Art Deco Inspiration
Perhaps my personal favorite is the ArtDeco inspired rooms I’ve been seeing. Just because interior design trends in 2026 are leaning more classic and cozy doesn’t mean spaces need to feel old-fashioned or fussy. This trend borrows the stacked or tiered geometry and silhouettes that were popular in the 1920s and 30s, but reinterprets them in a distinctly modern way. Dark lacquered finishes, burlwood, and velvet are some of the materials we will be seeing in furnishings and even architecture.
Patterns and Murals
Another trend coming in strong for 2026 is pattern. Forget solid, neutral-colored everything. Colorfully patterned window treatments, wallpaper, throw pillows, blankets, and even patterned sofas are back (yes, really). Florals and animal prints are especially popular, and tapestries are appearing more and more as well. Manufacturers of everything from housewares to furniture are offering patterned options, and I’m not mad about it. In addition, wall murals have made a big comeback this year, offering even more opportunity for personalization in your home.
Design trends come and go, often swinging strongly in one direction before inevitably going the other way. The goal isn’t to chase what’s new, but to understand it and thoughtfully incorporate elements that make sense. When done well, a home feels current without being trendy, and doesn’t quickly go out of style.
Until next time,
